Join Gabriel Sanchez Carpio for a discussion and Q&A about his artwork and his experience as the 2025-26 Appell Arts Fellow at York College.His solo exhibition, Cuero, will be on view in Gallery Hall at Marketview Arts from June 4–July 4, 2026, with an opening reception on Friday, June 5, from 5-9 p.m.
Cuero presents a series of paintings that explore Caribbean cultural syncretism and the experience of moving through modern life under Western influence. The works adopt a pictorial narrative approach to stage a tension between everyday life and the mystical.
The Appell Arts Fellowship and Powder Mill Foundation Arts Fellowship are 11-month artist residencies awarded each year to recent York College graduates pursuing careers in creative fields. As their culminating artistic project, each fellow presents an exhibition or public display of the creative work they produced during their fellowship term.
