About the Exhibition
We are pressed into lines transforms the familiar playground—a symbol of childhood innocence, play, and freedom—into a space for exploring how societal structures shape our identities, behaviors, and sense of belonging.
Through large-scale, playground-inspired sculptures, Melissa examines the subtle ways institutions influence our movements, choices, and personal freedoms. Drawing inspiration from Sara Ahmed's Queer Phenomenology, the exhibition considers how social expectations create invisible "lines" that guide our lives, often long before we become aware of them.
During the Artist Talk, Melissa will discuss the inspiration behind the exhibition, their creative process, and the ways art can challenge our understanding of the spaces and systems we navigate every day.
