Artist Talk & Demonstration with Koichi Yamamoto

Join us on Friday, August 14, as Manifest Drawing Center hosts artist Koichi Yamamoto for a 3-hour public artist talk and printmaking demonstration (including a 30-minute intermission). Yamamoto will discuss and demonstrate his copper plate etching process. Attendees will see his process unfold in real time and are encouraged to ask questions during the demonstration.

This event kicks off Yamamoto's weekend workshop, Line Fundamentals: Copper Plate Etching with the Échoppe , and offers a rare chance to watch his technique up close.

About the Artist:

Koichi Yamamoto is an artist whose work merges traditional and contemporary approaches to printmaking through innovative explorations of process, material, and image. His practice ranges from meticulously engraved copper plates to large-scale monotypes and kites.

Yamamoto studied at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon, and continued his training in copper engraving at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, Poland, and the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, Slovakia. He earned his MFA from the University of Alberta in Canada.

He has taught at Utah State University and the University of Delaware and is currently Professor of Art at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Our Drawing Center promotes and explores drawing, photography, and related activities as rich and culturally significant art forms through the pursuit of educational hands-on activities focused on visual literacy, critical thinking, and skill development.

Manifest's new facility, "M1" at 3464 Central Parkway, provides multiple studio classrooms, private lesson space, a darkroom, a film processing room, and a multi-purpose lecture and class meeting space as well as on-site parking, grounds, and exterior spaces in which to relax, discuss, and make art. The studios are outfitted with professional equipment, furniture, and study aids.
