About this Event
Artist-Run Spaces and the Role of the Artist/CuratorNovember 15, 2–4pm at The Luminary
Join us for a special Emerge session at The Luminary, a contemporary art space in St. Louis dedicated to supporting artists through exhibitions, residencies, publications, and professional development.
This roundtable conversation will feature members of Purple Window Gallery, an artist-led, community-supported project space and gallery located inside Mana Contemporary Chicago. As an artist cooperative, Purple Window is jointly owned and democratically run by its members, Chicago-based artists devoted to cultivating community and empowerment for artists both within and beyond city limits.
Together, we’ll explore the DIY ethos of artist-run spaces and the ways artists create their own infrastructures for making, showing, and sustaining work. The discussion will also reflect on the hybrid role of the artist/curator, a position that blurs traditional institutional boundaries and centers collaboration, experimentation, and mutual support.
This program is part of Emerge, The Luminary’s professional development series designed to provide artists with tools, insight, and community to sustain their creative practice.
