? Learn about the incredible world of indigo dye in textile arts with renowned artist Rowland Ricketts (@rickettsindigo).
?‍? Ricketts will share his experience in growing, processing and dyeing with indigo using historical Japanese techniques. Learn its history and uses in modern works of art that bring out the invisible aspects of how the color is created, as well as invisible histories that lie below the surface of this globally revered dye.
Trained in indigo farming and dyeing in Japan, Rowland received his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and is a Professor in Indiana University’s Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design. A recipient of a United States Artists Fellowship, his work has been exhibited at the Textile Museum in Washington, DC, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery, and the Seattle Art Museum. ? Rickett’s work "Untitled, Noren" is on view in the exhibition Craft Across Continents on Level 3 at Mint Museum Uptown.
