Artist Pop Up: Eliza Mowery

Come see the next Artist at Tomorrow spotlight featuring Eliza Mowery!

The gallery event with Eliza will be on February 21 from 5-7PM. Be the first to meet the artist and grab an original piece for your space! The gallery will be displayed at Tomorrow following the event for the next few months. Originals and prints will be for sale while on display!

Eliza Mowery has been a full-time artist based out of the Harrison Center for three years now, but has roots on the dunes of Lake Michigan as well as in the pines of the Pacific Northwest. All of these places greatly impact the content of her work. She paints and creates in order to make a living but also as an act of personal and community liberation. Through her work she aims to remind herself and her collectors that beauty, rest, and pleasure are revolutionary acts of healing. As Tricia Hersey wrote in her book “Rest as Resistance,”

“How can we access pleasure, joy, and liberation if we’re too tired to experience it?”

Eliza uses acrylic paint and many other mediums as a way to inspire a reason to stop and rest.

Beauty has a way of gently jolting us out of our rational/problem solving brain and back into our bodies. I hope that the color and content of my work is disruptive in a gentle way and gives you permission to breathe.

Eliza is proudly queer and neurodivergent and lets these parts of her identity bleed into the inclusivity and stories around her work.

She received a $2k grant through the Indiana Arts Commission back in 2021, which was pivotal in jumpstarting her career. Since then, she has been doing custom commission work for clients across America. Her clients have included several interior designers, Firefly Children and Family Alliance, Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Decorators’ Show House, (restaurant name), and many other individuals who have found her work through local markets or galleries. Eliza currently has originals and prints in two Michigan galleries and two local shops here in Indianapolis. Her next solo exhibit will be held at The Speck Gallery at the Harrison center, in April of 2024.
