Happening during March First Friday Art Walk.
Collective Marks: Six Years of Printmaking. The 29 oversized woodblock prints featured in this exhibition represent the work of over 50 artists from Portland’s vibrant printmaking community. Each print was pulled during the annual Steamy Summer Print Jam (or simply Print Jam) hosted by RunningWith Scissors Art Studios (RWS). Founded in 2017 by RWS owner and director Kate Anker and print and wood shop manager Carter Shappy Print Jam began as an
experiment in printing giant woodcuts carved from plywood and MDF with a 3-ton
asphalt roller. Over time it has grown into a cornerstone of Portland’s summer arts
scene fueled by community spirit a love of printmaking and a passion for
collaboration.
The event has expanded beyond live printing to include live music pop-up galleries
artist demos and the neighborhood-wide East Bayside Block Party which celebrates
the creative energy and diversity of Portland’s East Bayside community. After a
two-year hiatus due to the pandemic Print Jam made a safe and triumphant return in
2022 and approaches its seventh event this summer.
For the first time a selection of monumental prints made throughout Print Jam’s
history has been gathered in one exhibition. Collective Marks showcases the breadth
of talent and collaborative energy that defines Print Jam and oers a rare opportunity
to purchase these stunning works with proceeds supporting future Print Jam events
and programming.
