2023–2024 Featured Artists Lisa Bergant Koi, Paul Roden, Nancy McNary Smith, and Cheryl Capezutti will be in conversation with their work and one another on Thursday, May 2nd. The event is free and open to the public. Lisa Bergant Koi's work translates her experience of seeing into two-dimensional representations. Her style is often marked by expansive line-work, non-representational color, ambiguous shapes, and empty spaces between canvases.
Paul Roden creates bright, graphic renderings of our information-saturated world. Roden's career consisted solely of woodcut printmaking for the first dozen years, and that influence can be seen in the brilliant color and thick black lines of the paintings in the current exhibition.
Known in Pittsburgh for puppetry and interactive community events, Cheryl Capezzuti's work in the exhibition revisits dryer lint as medium. Dryer lint is one example of the non-traditional, donated, and discarded items included in her process and work.
Nancy McNary Smith has taught and created ceramic art for fifty years. Her work pushes the medium to its most delicate edge with slender forms that she punctures, affixes, and upends.
