Artist-guided Tour: Mostly Blues
About this Event
Artist-guided Tour: Mostly Blues
At this intimate gathering, multimedia artist Katerina will walk with the guests through the gallery, looking closely at the artworks in her solo show, currently on view at RIVAA Gallery on Roosevelt Island. She will be sharing the stories behind the pieces, discussing her creative process, and answering any questions the guests have about her work.
The exhibition Mostly Blues presents mainly works on paper and from paper, the artist’s favorite material, including , Twittering Machine – a series of large-scale drawings on the traditional Japanese Sekishu paper; and Tsunami – a series created by using the process of hand papermaking, done in collaboration with the organization Dieu Donné in Brooklyn. The artist will also discuss in more detail her artist's books and the process of making fine art prints, showing a selection of materials and tools she used in the process of making the works on view.
“I really like the tactile quality of paper, whether I use it as a support in drawing or painting or as a structural material in book arts. I carefully choose the paper I use for each project, for there are wide varieties of textures to work with. I’m also drawn to the sound paper makes, both in drawing, where I enjoy it as I mark the paper, and in book arts where I use the acoustic quality of paper to create a sensory experience for viewers as they explore my handmade books.”
To keep the tour engaging, space is limited. Please RSVP to guarantee your spot.
Estimated tour time: 45 min.
