Artist 2 Artist: Poppy DeltaDawn on Ximena Garrido-Lecca
About this Event
For this edition, Kansas City-based artist Poppy DeltaDawn responds to Signal Interludes, a solo exhibition by Ximena Garrido-Lecca.
Beginning with a brief artist talk, DeltaDawn will introduce her own practice and points of connection with Garrido-Lecca’s work before guiding participants through the exhibition. Offering a personal interpretive lens, the program creates space for new perspectives on the exhibition and the ideas, materials, and questions it brings forward.
Poppy DeltaDawn is an artist and educator whose work moves between digital Jacquard weaving, hand weaving, basketry, video, and land-based practice. She approaches weaving as one of the oldest technologies of order and encoding, tracing the threads between cloth, computation, labor, and land. Her work has been exhibited at DIMIN, Tiger Strikes Asteroid, Zürcher Gallery, BRIC, and Ortega y Gasset Projects, among other venues, and is held in museum and private collections. She has participated in residencies at MASS MoCA, the Fire Island Artist Residency, and the Unstable Design Lab at CU Boulder, among others. DeltaDawn holds an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She has taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, MICA, and Tyler School of Art, and is currently Assistant Professor of Textiles + Fiber at the University of Kansas.
