Join Made from Grapes and Slow Food Glasgow in a 2-part tasting series to sample some of the finest farmhouse cheese and artisanal beer produced right here in Scotland.
Inspired by a tasting experience pairing Alpine beers and cheeses at last year's Slow Cheese Festival, Slow Food Glasgow decided to bring this back to Scotland and look to uncover some local pairings of its own. In these sessions, we’ll introduce you to several locally produced beers and cheeses, explaining the production process and a little more about the ingredients themselves. With this in mind, we’ll guide and encourage you to tune into your senses and identify complementary flavour notes between the two.
In each of the sessions, we’ll be inviting two Glaswegian breweries to talk us through some of the in’s and out’s of producing beer in Glasgow. This time, we’ll have Harry of Dookit Brewery and Phil of Simple Things Fermentations bring a handful of their favourite beers to the table, accompanied by several cheeses from Lanark based cheese maker, Errington Cheese.
About the organisers and makers
Slow Food Glasgow is part of a global network of communities encouraging the consumption and production of good, clean and fair food.
Dookit Brewery is a space where locally sourced and often foraged ingredients are gathered to produce high-quality, low-intervention beers. Established in 2020 and based in Tollcross, they brew all their beers to be unfined, unfiltered and conditioned in packs. Brewing around 4-6 unique beers each year accompanied by a small core range, you’ll find most of Dookit’s beers are much like seasonal produce: delicious and only available for a short period of time.
Simple Things Fermentations was established in 2019 in Glasgow's Southside. They value quality, tradition, innovation, and doing things a little differently. Simple Things is about brewing beer with a sense of place, exploring beer styles that aren't always easy to find and using ingredients that extend the flavour spectrum beyond current trends. The beers are often modern takes on traditional styles, or contemporary styles with a twist.
Founded in 1984, Errington Cheese is a multi-generational farmhouse cheese producer, specialising in ewe and goat dairy. Handcrafting iconic styles including Lanark Blue, Corra Linn, & Blackmount, their cheeses are steeped in tradition. The flavours and subtleties of their award-winning cheeses are deeply tied to the picturesque upper Clyde valley in which they are produced.
This series is just one of the ways Slow Food Glasgow are looking to connect the general public with more Scottish producers and makers. Through tastings like these, they’re facilitating the sharing of producer stories to add even more value to this already incredible, locally produced food and beverage.
