In over fifty years as a performer has cultivated a prismatic repertoire including original songs, Irish and American folk songs, Anglo-Scottish ballads, Black spirituals, and poems and songs by writers including Dave Carter and Mary Oliver. For ten years he has been researching the songs of Robert Burns, toward producing a comprehensive book restoring Burns's uncorrupted source melodies and presenting his little-known early drafts.
His recordings have been released on Hogeye, Flying Fish and Waterbug Records. His latest, Different Now, is a retrospective of twenty original songs.
