NYC is filled with fashion, art, architecture and luxury everywhere you turn - especially on Madison and Fifth Avenues! I designed an extraordinary itinerary combining the best NYC has to offer in a VIP in-person tour on Thursday, October 22nd (9am-12pm).
We start by meeting at the Hermes flagship store at the corner of Madison and 64th Street. There, we will be treated to a VIP Hermes guided tour of the former historic bank (think Alexander Hamilton!) It has been transformed into a beautifully curated retail showplace offering the opportunity to learn about Hermes leather merchandise, clothing and more, their impressive art collection on view throughout, interior design features (their stunning curved marble staircase and terrazzo style flooring are very distinctive), and the fascinating history of the luxury brand itself. A major highlight is the Hermes rooftop garden with their signature equestrian statue situated among the greenery. This private tour is a rare opportunity to get a "behind the scenes" perspective because we are welcomed in one hour BEFORE the store opens to the public.
As we leave Hermes, we will enjoy a morning walking tour of many iconic NYC sites along the way towards Cartier. We will pass CBS founder William S. Paley's Paley Park, pocket park featuring a 20 foot high waterfall and a piece of the Berlin Wall, see some of the Art Deco masterpieces at Rockefeller Center and discover some hidden gems in the area.
The final stop will be the spectacular Cartier Mansion at 52nd Street and Fifth Avenue. This 6-story marble and granite Neoclassical landmark mansion, built in 1905, was once the private home of American business tycoon Morton Plant and his much younger second wife Maisie. By 1914, the couple had moved in and had high-society neighbors like the Vanderbilts and Astors.The story goes that French jewelers Pierre and Louis Cartier made an unusual deal with the Plants in 1917. The Plant Madison Avenue "palace" for $100 and an double-stranded pearl necklace (now valued at 20 million!) for Maisie. Maisie's portrait painting is on view at Cartier showing her proudly wearing the necklace. But don't worry too much about the Plants - they happily moved uptown and Maisie later became a very wealthy widow.
