Exquisite pieces of needlework are on display and in use every day at Wellington Cathedral of St Paul: beautifully decorated fabrics that hang at the front of the altars, spectacular robes and stoles worn by priests at services, and fine linens used at every service of Holy Communion. You’ll learn much about this remarkable fabric artistry when Jo Dixey talks to the Friends of Wellington Cathedral of St Paul and guests on Wednesday, 24 September at 10.30 am.
Jo is an internationally regarded embroiderer who graduated from the Royal School of Needlework and now lives permanently in New Zealand. She teaches, exhibits and sells her work, as well as accepting commissions. She has had contracts from the film industry, working on the Disney film Mulan and most recently on season 1 of Lord of the Rings TV series. Jo’s collection of embroidered 3D viruses, created during the 2020 Covid lockdown, are now on display in The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
