INTRODUCTION TO ART HANDLING
Location: Building Crafts College, Kennard Rd, London E15 1A.
Equipment required: all equipment will be provided
Facilitators: Sarah Titheridge & Phil Wilson-Perkin
The main concern when handling artworks is to maintain the safety of the artwork or object, our work environments, ourselves and those around us. The aim of this session is to minimise the risks involved in the handling of art works and objects.
The handling of works of art, and valuable, fragile and unique objects, requires a specialist approach, with careful planning, proper resources and lots of training and practice. In this 1 day session we cover the range of activities required when handling works of art and objects in a short classroom presentation followed by practical exercises:
– How to handle artworks and objects safely and securely in accordance with H&S regulations
– Identifying artistic mediums and their handling considerations
– Examining support material before handling such as condition reports, installation guides, method statements etc.
– Planning your work, in particular the required movements and routes
– Identifying and using the correct equipment to move art and objects
Art Technical work is predominately physical in its nature therefore if you have physical constraints which mean you struggle with physical activities please discuss this with the course leaders prior to booking to ensure we can accommodate you.
This course is only suitable for those aged 19+
