All Aboard with ArtFree Event
First Saturdays of the month are for art fun! Stop by for gallery activities, special presentations, and creative exploration designed for all ages.
Get to know the exhibition "All Aboard: The Railroad in American Art, 1840-1955", which explores the influence of trains on American art during an era of US expansion, industrialization, and urbanization. Come to spend time in the galleries, enjoy stories and music, and make art of your own.
Due to the generous support of Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program, "All Aboard" is free to all this day; always free for Joslyn members.
A look at the fun this month from 11 am–2 pm:
• Begin at our Welcome Table in the Hawks Pavilion! Pick up a program and map for the day. We can let you know about membership opportunities, upcoming programs, our Bloomberg Connects digital guide, and Art Card self-guide resources. We also can help with any accessibility needs.
• Storytime with Omaha Public Library, 11 am; get comfortable in our new Community Room for this storytime program. There also will be opportunities to learn more about all the great things happening at area libraries.
• 11:45 AM & 1 PM, Omaha-based vocalist and musical theater performer Evelyn Hill will sing and play Americana music on guitar and banjo
• Check out model train and toy displays with the Nebraska-Iowa Railroaders, and talk with their members about an upcoming 2025 Train and Toy Show, as well as their permanent space at Oak View Mall.
• Visit Studio 1 to create a work of art inspired by work in the collection. All ages are welcome.
• Check out our Art Cart station, with opportunities to touch hands-on materials and talk about art with our friendly Gallery Volunteers.
Drop-In Sketching! We have all the materials you need for sketching—a great way to slow down and look carefully at what you see.
• The Founder’s Room is designated as a quiet space for this event, with an array of books and games.
• Don’t forget to check out more great spaces—The Cafe offers food and drink for sale, The Shop has beautiful art items for all ages and interests, and Art Works: A Place for Curiosity is an interactive space with nine different art activity stations (children must be accompanied by adults).
Thanks to program partner Omaha Public Library and Nebraska-Iowa Railroaders.
Generous support provided by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program.
