Art of TodayFirst Saturdays of the month are for art fun! Stop by for gallery activities, special presentations, and creative exploration designed for all ages.
This month we’re celebrating the creativity of artists who are working around the world today. You’ll see paintings, sculptures, and installations made with materials like beads, sari dress fabric, discarded metal, and much more. Come to spend time in the galleries, enjoy stories and music, and make art of your own.
A look at the fun this month from 11 am–2 pm:
• Begin at our Welcome Table in the Hawks Pavilion! Pick up a program and map for the day. We can let you know about membership opportunities, upcoming programs, our Bloomberg Connects digital guide, and Art Card self-guide resources. We also can help with any accessibility needs.
• Storytime with Omaha Public Library, 11 am; get comfortable in our new Community Room for this storytime program. There also will be opportunities to learn more about all the great things happening at area libraries.
• Enjoy dance performances by tbd.dance collective, designed for specific museum spaces in the Hawks Pavilion and Scott Pavilion at 12pm & 1pm.
• Participate in a hands-on workshop to create clay beads for Cannupa Hanska Luger’s Bison Bead Project, an ongoing collaborative art effort honoring the resilience of Plains bison. The beads will be part of an upcoming exhibition at The Joslyn.
• Visit Studio 1 to create a work of art inspired by work in the collection. All ages are welcome.
• Check out our Art Cart station, with opportunities to touch hands-on materials and talk about art with our friendly Gallery Volunteers.
• Drop-In Sketching! We have all the materials you need for sketching—a great way to slow down and look carefully at what you see.
• The Founder’s Room is designated as a quiet space for this event, with an array of books and games.
• Don’t forget to check out more great spaces—The Cafe offers food and drink for sale, The Shop has beautiful art items for all ages and interests, and Art Works: A Place for Curiosity is an interactive space with nine different art activity stations (children must be accompanied by adults).
Thanks to program partners Omaha Public Library and tbd.dance collective.
Generous support provided by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program.
