About this Event
Art on the Lawn is the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History’s annual juried art show and outdoor festival. Each fall, the museum lawn transforms into an art marketplace where local and regional artists display and sell their work—paintings photography, ceramics, jewelry, and more. This is a free event. NO TICKETS NECESSARY.
Art on the Lawn provides artists with a professional platform to showcase and sell their work, often connecting them with new audiences, collectors, and supporters. Beyond sales, it creates valuable opportunities for networking with fellow creatives, cultural organizations, and potential patrons to strengthen the regional arts community as a whole.
This year, we’re excited to introduce something new—Art on the Lawn will expand into a two-day event. Many of our participating artists have asked for this change, as it not only gives them more time to showcase and sell their work, but also makes the effort of setting up more worthwhile.
Artists can also win cash prizes through the judging process. The prize amounts this year increased to show how much DMFAH values our artists, with $1,000 for first place, $500 second place and $250 for third place prizes
In addition to the juried art show, Art on the Lawn offers a full festival experience for all ages. Visitors can enjoy live music, a variety of food trucks, and a beer and wine tent, while families can take part in hands-on activities designed to spark creativity in children. This year’s kids’ activities include a community canvas where children are invited to paint freely, face painting, bounce houses, a treasure hunt, and other fun and creative activities.
Music is always a highlight of Art on the Lawn. This year, we’re excited to feature four local bands: Sherwood’s Gift, Phase 2, and Fescue performing on Saturday, and Kinnfolk performing on Sunday. We will also have three local food trucks serving up delicious food: Southern Belle, Smoking Good BBQ, and Just J’Licious.
Art on the Lawn coincides this year with the Danville Public Library’s Reflections of Home Art Festival, which will run the week of September 20-28. The library’s Reflections of Home Art Festival includes arts-related events at the library as well as other places in the community, including Art on the Lawn. This year the library is sponsoring the band Kinnfolk, and a presentation by John Rose, an American editorial cartoonist and newspaper comic artist, best-known for continuing the Barney Google and Snuffy Smith cartoon. Join us to support local artists and for a great time.
