The Art Center presents free public programming to kick off the Pride month!About this Event
Now in its fifth year, Art of Pride returns to the Hyde Park Art Center with an afternoon of queer joy, radical imagination, and collective celebration. This free, intergenerational event brings together LGBTQ+ artists, performers, makers, and community organizations from across Chicago to honor the transformative power of art and the brilliance of our queer and trans communities.
This year’s celebration features Live Performances & DJ Sets, Workshops & Art Activities, a Queer & Trans Artist Vendor Market, and so much more.
Whether you're a longtime neighbor, a young artist just finding your voice, or an ally looking to show up and celebrate—Art of Pride 2026 is a call to gather, create, dance, and honor the legacy and future of queer artists in Chicago.

The program brings together narrative, experimental, performance, and archival practices, with a focus on bodies, identity, and the textures of Chicago’s underground. Designed to be experienced in fragments, the sequence builds a cumulative rhythm for those who stay.

Agenda
🕑: 12:00 PM - 03:00 PM
Workshop: Veronica Casado Hernandez / The Sun is A Star (and so are you!)
Info: We are literally made out of star dust, and the sun is a star. In this workshop, participants will build their own sun/star/comet, with a multicolor tail of tissue paper. This star is activated by moving it or running with it. We are al stars and deserve to shine like the sun!
🕑: 12:00 PM - 03:00 PM
Workshop: Nabeela Washington
Info: Join NaBeela Washington from Lucky Jefferson to create a community photo archive full of PRIDE. She'll be photographing guests and gathering their words to build a collective memory you can revisit long after the day ends.
🕑: 12:00 PM - 03:00 PM
Workshop: GPLXC
Info: The Gage Park Latinx Council invites you to co-create a beautiful queer garden with us! During a time, when our LGBTQIA2S+ community continues to be stigmatized as “unnatural”, we resist this rhetoric and recognize queerness is woven through the natural world! With many organisms, including clownfish and roses challenging the binary categorization of male and female biological sex and over 1,500 species expressing queer behavior, the natural world affirms queerness is abundant and complex, just like us! Come create with us: we will have large-scale stencils of flowers and mushrooms for folks to trace, cut out, and paint, as well as cool facts of queerness found in the natural world.
