Art of Darkness: Goya’s Demons

From his early mastery of portraiture to his late harrowing Black Paintings Francisco de Goya (1746-1828) chronicled the upheavals of his time while battling his own demons. Today his work feels as prescient and relevant as ever capturing a world at odds with itself.

In this special live episode of the cult Art of Darkness hosts Kevin Kautzman and Abbie Lucas recount Goya’s story through the most demonic modern medium: the podcast. Beginning at the end with the haunting Black Paintings they will trace the artist’s story to his early life rise to fame and the controversies surrounding his Naked Maja portrait. Through his work and biography the hosts will explore how Goya’s vision emerged from a time of war revolution and personal turmoil leaving us with some of art history’s most unsettling and enduring images.
