About this Event
Join us on Thu Mar 20, 2025 at 6:00 PM for a fun and creative evening. In this workshop, you'll learn from exhibition artist Tan Jazz Mont how to wrap an object with plaster bandages, and then decoratively paint the exterior, resulting in a unique wrapped readymade sculpture. Guests are encouraged to bring their own small object to be forever encased, or objects including small chip bags will be available in class. Objects should be no bigger than 5 inches on any side. Let your imagination run wild as you wrap, shape, and paint your very own masterpiece. No experience necessary, just bring your creativity! Don't miss out on this opportunity to unwind, learn from an amazing artist, and get crafty with fellow art enthusiasts. See you there!
All materials provided, as well as refreshments including wine and beer from proud business partners Claremont Craft Ales. This is a 21+ event
Be sure to explore our galleries and catch our current show Home in Aztlán: The Garcia Collection of Chicanx Art before it closes March 23!

Tan Jazz Mont is a queer artist who lives and works in the Inland Empire. Mont creates paintings and sculpture at the intersection of autobiography, social commentary, and abstraction. Personal narratives are in constant flux, straddling the precipice between iconography and the materiality of paint. Mont harvests the rich imagery of his Hispanic heritage to speak to the irresolvable complexities of identity. Angst and hope are tenuously held together by an appreciation of the absurd that utilizes humor without mockery. His style is intuitive and experimental while also engaging in self-conscious revision and subversion. If a painting becomes too “sophisticated,” the artist changes course, pushing the boundaries of accepted taste. Tan Jazz Mont earned a BFA in drawing and painting from California State University Fullerton and an MFA in conceptual painting from Claremont Graduate University. While attending CGU, Mont was awarded the AIGA Worldwide Scholarship and the CGU Merit Scholarship twice. Mont is a Visual Arts professor at San Bernardino Valley College, Mt. San Jacinto College, and Moreno Valley College. In September 2024, Mont was awarded a certificate as an art instructor for the We the People Culture Consortium’s Year Two of the Threshold Reentry through Arts program, supporting formerly incarcerated women throughout the inland empire. When Mont is not painting, he enjoys spending time with his wife, son, cat, and potbelly pig.
