In this week’s lecture we’ll explore how distinctly American stories are told through genre scenes by looking at the work of George Catlin, William Sydney Mount, George Caleb Bigham and Lily Martin Spencer. We’ll also focus on Native American art that is being created in response to the Indian Removal Act and the traditions represented by notable figures such as Sore Belly and artists of the Ghost Dance Movement.
