Friday, July 31, 5:30 - 7 pm, remarks at 6pm
Saturday, August 1st, 12 - 3pm, remarks at 1pm
Rooted in Activism/Working for the Water is a showcase of new artwork created in 2026 through Milwaukee Water Commons Programs. All work follows the themes of water as freedom and water is something to protect.
On display will be:
A community quilt made as part of the Water is Freedom and Quilts Workshop: A discussion about the Underground Railroad in Milwaukee, how water was a pathway to freedom, and how quilts offered messages to lead the way.
A Water is Freedom, Water is Life banner created with MIAD students at their Earth Day event.
Prints created in a relief printmaking class that focused on art activism and variety of water issues.
A water themed, community created accordion book.
