About this Event
Learn art history and gain tools to feel more confident in painting in this weekly class, whether you’ve never picked up a brush or you’ve been painting for years. We begin with storytelling about the inspiration, usually something from the Cleveland Museum of Art. You'll receive accessible, easy-to-follow instructions to adopt the artist's mindset to make your own unique creation. You'll have ample time to paint with twinkle lights, candles, good music, and an instructor sitting right beside you. It is okay, nay, encouraged to make bad art here.
Bonus: grab ice cream or ramen across the street at Mason's and make it a whole night out.
Location:
4321 Bridge Ave in the Harbor and Bridge Community Center. Enter through the door under the awning. You'll see a painted sign on the door that says Art Class. The main room is straight ahead, up a few stairs.
Instructor
Your instructor is a lifelong artist who specializes in quieting the inner voice that says you’re not good at art. She creates a welcoming, safe space where creativity feels natural, and judgment disappears.
In this week's class: The Stargazer Statue ( A CMA "Must See")
"The Stargazer" moniker was given to this diminutive marble sculpture because its upturned head looks toward the heavens. Details carved into the stone are visible while painted features have been lost to time. We do not know how this object was used, but its enigmatic nature invites speculation, which we will play with. What female figures were worshiped in 3000 BC Anatolia, and what role did they play in everyday life? We will learn a bit about Hittite mythology and make up and paint our own statuettes.
