Calling all local artists, and students! The Phelps Art Center and EMBL3M are partnering up! EMBL3M focuses on education and direct access to crisis services for people going through any number of mental health and addiction. Our profound impact is teens 14-24, but we strive to help anyone and guide anyone in the right direction.
The Phelps Art Center is a beautiful venue that host a number of events through out the year and is allowing us to use the space for the Art Gallery that we will be December 1 and 2, 2023.
With mental health statistics on the rise this time of year with breaks coming up, it is imperative that we bring attention to this issue, in a meaningful way. The art gallery we are hosting will allow students to show case their art pieces in a safe space that is designed to bring people together, and bring attention to a much larger issue.
Statistically the National Suicide Hotline sees and influx of calls and messages around this time of year going into holidays and breaks. For many students the only outlet they have is school. This may be the only time they feel safe, or have the ability to socialize with other kids their age. This is a heavy burden for many youth to carry especially moving into this time where students are going to be going on breaks. Our work in the community is designed to give individuals the ability to have someone to talk to, and know that there are safe spaces for them to go when needing support.
There are approximately 132 suicides a day, and men are 3x more likely to commit suicide due to social constructs. This is 11th leading cause of death as of 2021. See additional facts here: https://afsp.org/suicide-statistics/
Embl3m's goal is to educate and advocate for students that don't have a voice in this world.
With that being said, we are asking for submissions of various art work (all medias). Please submit photos to [email protected]
There is no fee to submit art, we just want to give an opportunity to show case art for a good cause. All media is welcome!
Please submit your entry ideas no later than November 27th, 2023!
