Art Foundations - Class Series

Ready to step into the art world or looking to step up your game?

This 6-week series is a great way to learn some of the fundamental principles to get you going in the world of creativity.

Each session will start with 30-45 minutes of lecture/discussion with some art history woven in. We'll then spend around 2 hours of instructed practical application using art masters as inspiration to create our own artwork.

Classes can be taking as a complete series, or separately. While they may build on themselves, and they may reference previous classes, every class will be understandable as a standalone.

This is a beginner-level, yet great for artists who'd like a refresher or haven't yet learned the basics. It's a very accelerated series of classes for anyone 14 and older. No previous experience required.

All supplies and equipment included. Just bring your enthusiasm and smiles.

This series happens weekly on Fridays at 11AM

March 20 - Value, Contrast, and Light

This is the very beginning. White to black and everything inbetween. See how Value and Contrast work to make artwork standout (or fade back).

March 27 - Line, Shape, and Form

Lines, shapes, and forms combine to create emersive art.

April 3 - Movement, Rhythm, Pattern, and Variance

Make your art feel like it's dancing—or standing completely still. These principles help bring a piece to life.

April 10 - Size, Perspective, and Proportion and Scale

Using different sizes, correct proportions, and convincing perspective gives visual depth on a flat surface. Trick the brain into seeing something interesting.

April 17 - Composition (Layout, Symmetry, Space and Perspective)

There are many ways to draw viewers' eyes around your artwork. Setting up the placement of subjects of your painting brings your audience into your art. Good composition can take a piece from ok to great.

April 24 - Color (Mixing, Psychology, and Culture)

Learn about how color effects your psyche and emotions, colors that work both visually and with cultural impact, and a little about how to mix colors to get others.

While snacks and (n/a) drinks will be available, feel free to bring your own food and drinks.
