On Friday, July 19 th , from 10:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Ra-Ve Cultural Foundation will host its very popular Art for the Ages event with Sewing Design Bootcamp, a workshop featuring the basics of sewing taught by Basana Chhetri from INTERFORM. Not only will you learn your way around a sewing machine, but you’ll also learn how to make your own scrunchies or gender- neutral kimono-sleeved top!
This FREE event is focused on people over 60, but all ages are welcome––and it includes a vegetarian lunch! And just to make things easy, FREE bus transportation is available. The event is FREE but registration is required. To register, go to

Starting at 10 AM, Basana will provide a brief introduction to the craft and art of sewing. We will learn about the sewing machine, how to stitch, how to take measurements, and guidelines on how to create your own garments.
● This is a FREE event.

About Basana Chhetri
Basana Chhetri is a Nepalese-American designer from Arkansas. Born and raised in Nepal and educated and trained in Nepal, Japan and England, Basana is a costume designer and artist . She is quintilingual, with an extensive cross-cultural upbringing and exposure that shapes her creative expressions.
After completing her fashion design education in Kyoto, Japan, Basana returned to her native country Nepal and started the first Fashion School in Nepal, The Contemporary Institute of Arts and Fashion. Over the span of 20+ years she has contributed towards the Nepalese government’s fashion design curriculum, showcased her designs in various fashion shows, been an educator and advisor to fashion institutions in Nepal and the founder and main designer for a boutique in London. She has showcased her creative work in fine arts with paintings on stretched canvases, plain silk, and wearable fabrics in a unique fusion of traditional artwork and apparel design. She has had solo exhibitions in Tokyo, New York and
the Walton Art gallery in Fayetteville Arkansas.
Previously, Basana has worked with Arkansas Arts and Fashion Forum in teaching sewing and stitching classes to Marshallese students to empower women in the local community.
