About this Event
During the No Arena fight, we saw how powerful art and artists can be within our social change work. Art can shift the energy of a room, elevate a moment, create connection and intimacy between people, break down political barriers, encourage us to see/honor our humanity in others (and vice versa). Art can interrupt and redirect the flow of power—all while making space for the joy and transcendence needed to sustain ourselves and our movements. When infused with intention, the process of making art together can transform relationships and build greater trust—the bedrock of impactful social change.
We believe that art and organizing are inextricable from one another. Join us for a public forum bringing together local artists and grassroots organizers as we ask each other:
- What can our collective superpowers be when art and organizing work together?
- Where does there need to be greater understanding between artists, organizers, and community? What can we learn from dissonance, pain points and process misalignments?
- How can a deeper understanding of both art-making processes and movement building work offer new perspectives that change how we approach our respective practices?
This event will include:
- Dinner
- Roundtable discussions
- Pollination Stations* - tabling opportunities for organizers/artists to seed & nurture relationships with Philly Asian Futures participants. (*this term originates from the brilliant organizers of the gatherings)
This event is co-curated in partnership with Asian Americans United.
