About this Event

***FREE AND OPEN TO ALL***

"We Can Be Astronauts Too" is inspired by Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson who were mathematicians for NASA during the early years of the space program. They were part of a team of black women known as "human computers" who performed crucial calculations that sent the first American astronaut into orbit (John Glenn) in 1962. These women made it their life’s work to accomplish a mission for a country that saw them as less than. The artist questions if they knew they were paving the way for other black women and marginalized groups while at the same time advancing the field of space exploration.

Through a collection of powerful and evocative works, the artist, MAVP365 (@mavp365), tackles the space that appreciates resilience and sets up for relentlessness, while tying back to qualities of our inner child before we were masked by inflictions that made us feel othered.

Step into the gallery and let yourself explore how we can use stories near and far (Space) and from past and present (Time) to help us build a better future. We are all here, now!
