About this Event
…The Candle Whispered Them Here by Delalie Cofie and What the Edge Knows by Natia Lemay are on view at CIBC square as part of the C2 Art program.
In Lemay's exhibition Black is not absence but living presence, a reservoir of histories, geographies, and encounters. It explores what Black absorbs and reflects, obscures and reveals.
Cofie's exhibition asks two questions: Where do oral histories go? And what if stories had a place to stay? It imagines the practice of storytelling as a ritual through which the trail of words shared within a home find their way into household objects that store them.
Visits are available by appointment only, so don’t miss this special opportunity to experience the exhibitions with the artists present!
About the Artists
Delali Cofie
Delali Cofie is a Ghanaian-Nigerian photographer currently living in Toronto, Canada. Through storytelling he engages in multiple genres of photography such as fine art, documentary, and fashion. His personal work presents subtle beauty whilst exploring themes of self-formation and the process of becoming. Frequently creating work between his native city Accra and current city Toronto, his work tells a tale of two cities, linked by a diasporic thread.
Natia Lemay
Natia Lemay was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and is based in New Haven, CT. Her Interdisciplinary autoethnographic practice reflects her lived experience. Through personal stories, she interrogates the intersections between the mind, the body, and space to understand how these experiences relate to a broader cultural context.
Location: CIBC Square (81 Bay St, Toronto, ON, M5J 1E6).
Please meet at the building concierge, where we will be guided to the exhibition.
