Klara will share about three creative projects related to the C’ulc’ena’ Łuu' / Gulkana Glacier in the Eastern Alaska Range. She will speak about painting on location, art-science connections, and a new community-informed visual archive being created in collaboration with Katie Ione Craney. Informed by deep connections with the glacier, these projects highlight differing ways we can interact with place, listen to the land, and reckon with historical legacies and ongoing change.Klara Maisch is a visual artist and skier from Fairbanks, who has visited the Gulkana Glacier since she was a child. Her connection with the glacier is shaped by recreational hiking and skiing, experiences instructing for Girls* on Ice, assisting with field science, digging into archival research, and long-term artistic engagement.
