Join a First Nations storyteller and creative as they highlight artworks from QAGOMA’s Indigenous Australian Art Collection and explore the complex stories of history, culture and place that they tell.

In this tour, explore the work of artists Robert Andrew, Iltja Ntjarra artists, artists of the Hermannsburg School, Kaylene Whiskey, Aubrey Tigan and Paddy Bedford.

Facilitator: Sandy Harvey is the Public Programs Project Officer at QAGOMA. Sandy is a proud Kalkadoon woman.

• 'Art & This Place' Tours are a unique opportunity to engage with First Nations culture, history, and art. It’s not possible to provide a comprehensive history of this place or First Nations art and culture in a short tour. The tour will spark conversation by highlighting QAGOMA artworks and unpacking some of the stories these artworks tell.
• The tours are designed as a space to ask questions and engage in respectful discussion. You can participate in discussion, ask questions, or just listen.
• When posing questions please consider that Art & This Place facilitators are not equipped to speak on behalf of all First Nations people, only on their own unique experience.

• We ask all attendees to be kind, respectful, and courteous to all participants, speakers, and staff at this event. This program will be monitored by QAGOMA staff to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our attendees, speakers, and staff.

Sensory aspects

• The tour will go ahead – rain or shine. The tour route starts outside, and then will move inside the Gallery where the air conditioning is set to 21°C. The tour will include flat-terrain walking. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes. The route is wheelchair & pram accessible.
• The tour will include standing. Portable stools without backs will be available.
• The facilitator will use an amplified microphone. Please let us know in advance if you are hard of hearing so we can make this tour accessible for you via hearing loop.
• No screens or projections will be used during the event.
• The event may be photographed by QAGOMA staff. If you do not wish to be photographed, please advise a QAGOMA staff member on arrival.
