About this Event
Artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer and MOCA Senior Curator Ylva Rouse discuss the intersection of art and technology at this round table lecture, part of MOCA's Ideas of Our Time Series.
Lozano-Hemmer is a media artist working at the intersection of architecture and performance art. He creates platforms for public participation using technologies such as robotic lights, digital fountains, computerized surveillance, media walls, and telematic networks. Inspired by phantasmagoria, carnival, and animatronics, his light and shadow works are "antimonuments for alien agency."
His latest work is , part of MOCA's Project Atrium series. The piece is a thermal observatory, showing a constantly updating map of the room's temperature on three colossal wall-projections. Using state of the art Xenics Dione thermographic cameras, the project detects heat and cold in the environment, including the building’s air circulation and ventilation, visitors’ body heat, and inanimate objects. As with previous biometric art projects by Lozano-Hemmer, the piece is a call to think of the human body as a continuum with the environment around us.
Cocktails and SoulFULL Eats Charcuterie "Board in a Box" will be available during this event at the MOCA Bar. Pre-order recommended for charcuterie boxes, which can be found during registration. Beverages and snacks are also available for purchase from Setlan Coffee Co., in the museum's lobby.
This program is part of MOCA's Ideas of Our Time, a free lecture series providing a forum for creative dialogue with artists, educators, and others around some of the most vital art and ideas of our time.
Art & Technology Round Table takes place during VyStar Free Saturdays @ MOCA, which provides free admission to all every Saturday. Feel free to explore the galleries after the program.
SPACE IS LIMITED. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.
