About this Event
Welcome to Art & Soil, Arte Y Tierra! Join us at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center for a day filled with creativity and connection to the earth. The series of events celebrate the beauty of nature through various art forms, from painting to sculture. Come explore the intersection of art and soil with hands-on workshops, live demonstrations, and interactive exhibits. Whether you're an experienced artist or just looking to try something new, there's something for everyone at Art & Soil, Arte Y Tierra. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of art and nature! Join one at $75 or all 4 at $250.
Session 1: In our first gathering of the Arte y Tierra series, we’ll honor the beloved Monstera—la planta de abuelitas y tías—a plant that, like our familias, grows strong through both beauty and imperfection.
🌱 Hands-on: Learn to cut and propagate Monsteras, sharing plantitas the way our comunidades share stories, consejos, and traditions.
💬 Plantita Plática: Together we’ll reflect on how the natural “holes” and splits of the Monstera mirror the imperfections in our own lives, and how these marks can be embraced as part of our growth and wellbeing.
🎨 Art Creation: Guided by Tina Medina, participants will paint layered watercolor leaves inspired by the Monstera. We’ll highlight imperfections with touches of gold leaf—an artistic nod to healing and resilience, echoing traditions like kintsugi and cultural practices that honor what is broken yet made whole.
Come connect through art, plantas, and cultura as we root ourselves in community.
