About this Event
This workshop will focus on stress relief, self-care, and strategies to provide students with methods to manage their stress during the final exam season.
With this workshop, our goal is to provide students with a little break from their stressful studies and give them resources to help them in their day-to-day lives to manage their stress.
What is Somatic Art Therapy?:
Art Therapy is a mental health profession that uses the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. It integrates psycho-therapeutic techniques with the creative process to improve mental health and well-being. It is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight. Sometimes referred to as ‘Creative Arts Therapy’ or ‘Expressive Arts Therapy’, it encourages people to express and understand emotions through artistic expression and the creative process.
Where regular talk therapy focuses on thoughts in the mind, Somatic Therapy creates a curiosity of how thoughts, feelings and sensations are experienced within the body. When we use this modality of healing somatically, we are bringing conscious awareness to the body, feelings and internal sensations. This supports lasting healing that originates from within which gives people the tools and skills to navigate and manage stress in their day to day lives.
