Armoured combat Beginners course

'This looks cool, I want to do this, too! Where do I begin?' Starting out in a sport like ours can be daunting. You might have a ton of questions about the equipment, best ways to practice and prepare for competitions... We got you! The HMB Foundations course was created to give you a speedy kick-start on your journey into the world of steel sports. Its program is designed for complete beginners and aims to introduce the new starters to all the main aspects of the sport in a safe beginner-friendly environment.

More about the course

Inspired by medieval knight's tourneys, armoured combat combines historical armour and weapons with a modern ruleset to create a new, adrenaline fueled full-contact sport. It is sometimes referred to as 'armoured MMA', as the fighters are allowed to combine fencing techniques with Judo, Muay Thai, and other martial arts moves – all wearing a full suit of steel armour.

Armoured Combat Gloucester (or ACG for short) is a Gloucester-based medieval fight club. We train and compete across all disciplines currently available in the sport.

ACG appeared on the UK fighting scene in 2017; it's been a long and truly amazing journey since. Together, we've travelled many miles to compete all over the UK and Europe supporting each other through thick and thin – and just having a good time!

The on-ramp course consists of 4 sessions held on four consecutive Thursday nights. We'll use soft protective pads and soft weapons to cover all the basics you need to know to join our regular classes safely.
