Biography of Leta Jones
Goodman
Leta is the President /Treasurer of Cherokee Gadugi, a satellite organization of the Cherokee Nation.
Gadugi means working together. Leta’s Cherokee research started with working on her Cherokee Nation
Registration for Citizenship, when her kids were still in school. They now have kids and grandkids of their own. Leta is currently President of the Colleyville Association of Genealogy,
GAC (pronounced Jack). She is Vice-President of the Oklahoma Native American
Basketweavers Association. She has done Native and Cherokee Genealogy presentations for
over 20 years. She has worked with several organizations to help people understand their
Native research, especially Cherokees and what it truly means to be Native.
Leta is bringing some of her own basket collection to show off during the break, after her
presentation. Those of us that have Indian baskets we can’t identify can bring them in and Leta
will see if she knows their origin.
