How does a love of literature help rebuild a civilization after a pandemic?
About this Event

Join acclaimed writer, critic and lecturer Aritha van Herk, UCalgary Professor Emerita, for her take on the value of deep literary engagement as a foundation of civilization building in a post-pandemic world.

Emily St. John Mandel's 2014 novel and its 2021 HBO miniseries adaptation achieved widespread critical success, major literary awards, and top film and television industry honors.

There's so much to talk about and we can't wait to hear what Aritha has to say.

Big Book Club talks are 45-60 minutes with time afterwards for audience questions and discussion.

Water and biscuits will be served. If you want coffee or tea, please bring your own in a lidded cup.

Many parking spaces in the main lot are reserved for pre-school pickup. Please arrive early to take advantage of accessible street parking.
