The International Security Studies Program will host Dr. Ariel (Eli) Levite, who is a nonresident senior fellow in the Nuclear Policy Program and the Technology and International Affairs Program at the Carnegie Endowment. Prior to joining the Carnegie Endowment in 2008, Dr. Levite was the principal deputy director general for policy at the Israeli Atomic Energy Commission from 2002 to 2007. He also served as the deputy national security adviser for defense policy and was head of the Bureau of International Security and Arms Control (an assistant secretary position) in the Israeli Ministry of Defense.
Dr. Levite will be at Fletcher on December 3-4, 2024, and will present the following two lectures on those dates.
Tuesday Evening December 3--"How Israel was Caught Off Guard on October 7th.” The presentation will be held at the Chase Center from 5:45-8:00 PM. During the event Dr. Levite will be presented under the auspices of the International Security Studies Program the Robert and JoAnn Bendetson Public Diplomacy Award.
Wednesday December 4--"Nuclear Threshold: Theory and Practice.” The presentation will be held at the Fletcher School, Room 703 from 12-2:00 PM. Dr. Levite plans to discuss how to think about states like Iran or South Korea that might be on the "threshold" of acquiring nuclear weapons and what this means for research and policy.
