Ari Seth Cohen and Friends Live at Tattered Cover Colfax

Ari Seth Cohen will be joined by Brooks Luby, Judith Boyd, and EllynAnne Geisel as they discuss all things fashion, photography, and pets!

Ari will be presenting his newest book, answering audience questions, and signing his books. We will have serveral copies of previous titles available to purcahse.

Registration includes a signed copy of the book and an opportunity to meet the author.

If you are unable to attend the event after purchasing a ticket, you are required to pick up your copy of the book (with proof of purchase from your event registration) within 7 days after the event date. If the book is not picked up by that date, you relinquish your copy to Tattered Cover Book Store.

Advanced Pets, a continuation of the photographer’s renowned book series that has sold over 150,000 copies globally, builds on the conversations about age representation Ari Seth Cohen has been championing for the past decade, this time focusing on the cherished bonds between seniors and their pets.
When Ari Seth Cohen’s grandmother Bluma passed away in 2008, the author and photographer took her advice and moved from California to New York City in search of his creativity. Cohen immediately began to photograph and interview the senior fashionistas he saw on the city’s streets as a way to deal with loss and explore his creative passion. He soon created a blog titled Advanced Style that quickly attracted the attention of the fashion industry. In 2015, The New York Times now-Chief Fashion Critic Vanessa Friedman credited Cohen with creating a global movement which has led to more age diversity and increased visibility for older models in popular culture, fashion, and advertising. This blog was inspired by his own grandmother's unique personal style and his lifelong interest in the uber-curated fashion of eclectic seniors.
In 2012, Cohen released his first coffee table book, the widely successful Advanced Style. It sold 80,000 copies around the world and quickly became powerHouse Books’ most successful title on social media. Cohen brought his colorful subjects to the big screen in the critically acclaimed Advanced Style Documentary. This was followed by a second book, Advanced Style: Older and Wiser (2016, powerHouse Books) and Advanced Love (2018, Abrams).

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Ari Seth Cohen is a freelance writer, photographer, and blogger based in Los Angeles. Cohen grew up in San Diego and moved to New York in 2008, where he immediately noticed a vibrant community of older women with grand personal styles. This eventually led to the creation of Advanced Style, a blog devoted "to capturing the sartorial savvy of the senior set." Over the past ten years, Advanced Style has appeared in national media such as The New York Times, The New Yorker, Los Angeles Times, The Huffington Post, Vice, New York, The Fader, Vogue Japan, Vogue Italia, Elle, Elle UK, The UK Telegraph, Forbes.com, and internationally broadcast news and fashion programs. He has since published Advanced Style The Coloring Book, Advanced Style: Older and Wiser and Advanced Love.

As an ageless beauty myself, I embody the idea that allure transcends time. This concept of enduring elegance, beyond the superficial, is the cornerstone of my work as a clothing designer. I believe in empowering individuals to shape their personal style, regardless of age. As the creative force behind Brooks LTD, I've dedicated my career to crafting timeless, bespoke ensembles that empower individuals to embrace their personal style, regardless of age.

My philosophy is rooted in the belief that true elegance goes beyond time. This ethos is reflected in my designs, where I blend modern and vintage fabrics to create classic shapes with contemporary details. I'm known for my luxurious textiles, comfortable silhouettes and impeccable craftsmanship that flatter diverse body types and adapt to our changing figures. I draw inspiration from and contribute to the broader movement celebrating positive aging.

Operating from my private atelier in Denver, Colorado, I focus on slow fashion and handcrafted qualities. Each Brooks LTD piece is a unique creation, transforming clothing into wearable art that honors the ageless beauty in all of us.

Beyond my work in fashion, I'm a vocal advocate for redefining beauty standards. I champion embracing change, celebrating individuality, and defying age-related stereotypes. My message resonates with those who believe that confidence, wellness, and lifelong learning are key to radiating beauty at any age.

Through my designs and advocacy, I continue to spread a powerful message: Beauty is not defined by numbers, but by spirit, passion, and zest for life. Judith Boyd

Judith Boyd is the creator of Style Crone, a project dedicated to the older woman in her most creative, outrageous, powerful, and proud era. Her career as a psychiatric nurse transitioned to style blogger in the year 2010. Fashion has always been a passion for her. She owned a Denver hat shop in the 1980s and sold vintage in an antique mall and on consignment through the 1990s while simultaneously working in healthcare.

Style Crone, the blog, was launched during the last nine months of her husband Nelson’s life. As her photographer, the blog became a lifeline the two of them shared. Blogging unfolded as her medium to process loss and express herself creatively, writing about cancer caregiving, death, grief, and personal reinvention. Composing outfits including a hat, comprised of sustainable and recycled pieces or garments created by artisans, became her art form. It also introduced her to a community of creatives across the globe, including the Advanced Style Movement created by Ari Seth Cohen. This movement inspired her to launch her own blog and has influenced the perception and reduced the fear of aging in our culture.

Judith began modeling in her 70s. Her photo shoot in NYC for the Neiman Marcus 2021 Holiday Catalog demonstrates the importance of the inclusion and representation of older people in fashion. Several year ago she modeled for a designer during New York Fashion week.

Judith’s social media platforms provide her the opportunity to promote awareness around aging, ageism, mindfulness and health, climate change, and social justice, reflecting her values. At the age of 81 she lives with purpose and passion wearing a hat as an exclamation point. Nelson’s inspirational spirit is with her always as she moves forward.

EllynAnne Geisel

Following her 26-year dream-come-true career as a wife/mommy/homemaker, EllynAnne took a deep breath and embarked on her second dream career - to become a published writer. The subject of her first article, the domestic apron, turned out to be the catalyst to more than she ever imagined for herself:  authoring three books, The Apron Book, The Kitchen Linens Book and Apronisms, and creating Apron Chronicles, an exhibit that traveled America for 16 years. With its final showing at History Colorado (and a recalibrated exhibit Tie One On...an apron, of course!, which showed at Denver's BRDG project), EllynAnne consideres herself the luckiest to have lived 2 of her dreams to the fullest.

At 76, EllynAnne´s list of dreams to explore has significantly shortened and her priorities shifted. With age and a tad of wisdom, she living to a new mantra - why cancel the picnic just because it´s a cloudy day. 

EllynAnne is celebrating 49 years with her Prince Charming, Hank. She is the proud mama of Noah and Gideon, delighted MIL of Stacey and Ashley, and over-the-moon granma to Lilah Charlotte and Jonah. Depending on your interests, her social media posts may amuse, inform, or bore.
