In 30+ years when I practiced Architecture with multiple local and international firms this question always triggered my curiosity. As Professionals who are trained to create and uphold Design Excellence, what role shall we play in the firm we work in whether we own the practice or are employed? Early in my career I was so much intrigues that I enrolled in the MBA program to tackle these issues

In big firms AE firms where people with varied skills and strengths are available to deal with various tasks, the issue of marketing and business development are handled differently than SMB firms. In the past few years I attended numerous meetings of SPIF (Small Practice Information Forum) that was established by OAA to review the challenges they face and to make recommendations. I found out that most attendees are struggling not only to find projects to sustain their practices, but also were not clear of how small businesses are run and the dynamics that govern them.
