Are You Experienced? The Premier Jimi Hendrix Tribute
Celebrating their 27th year, Are You Experienced? has unequivocally established itself as Europe’s leading Hendrix tribute act. Their journey has seen them headline international festivals across Brazil, Barbados, Rhodes, and feature prominently in Holland, Germany, and Sweden. The group’s authenticity is spearheaded by founder John Campbell, whose striking resemblance and portrayal of Hendrix have garnered acclaim, including television appearances that showcase his embodiment of the legendary guitarist.
In late 2019, the ensemble welcomed Phil Carter into the fold as their drummer, a transition marked by the unfortunate timing of the global live music hiatus in 2020 and 2021. Despite these challenges, Phil’s addition has been nothing short of transformative. As a fervent Hendrix admirer, his fresh dynamism and enthusiasm have reinvigorated the band’s performances.
A memorable highlight in the band’s history was in 2014, when Jimi Hendrix’s younger brother, Leon, selected John Campbell to accompany his UK gigs. This collaboration blossomed into a friendship, leading to Are You Experienced? being the band of choice for Leon’s Jimi Hendrix Golden Anniversary tour in September 2016 and again for his latest UK theatre tour in 2018.
In a poignant homage to Hendrix’s legendary performance, Are You Experienced? had the honour of opening The Isle of Wight Festival 2021, marking 50 years since Hendrix’s own appearance, albeit a year delayed due to governmental restrictions.
The band’s mission to enliven Hendrix’s music for both new listeners and those who experienced his magic firsthand continues to be a source of inspiration and admiration within the music community. Darren Redick from Planet Rock lauds them with a resounding “Wow…just WOW!” and Keith Altham, renowned PR to the stars, affirms, “John has the whole Jimi vibe going on.”
