About this Event
Our next PA forum on Wednesday 6 March at the Bluecoat in Liverpool looks to be an exciting one!
We will be exploring the experiences of our public advisors through the co-creation of a Zine!
A zine (pronounced zeen) is an independently published work created by an individual or collaboratively. They have a diverse range of topics that can draw on personal experiences and opinions. The process of creating a zine with public advisors will deliver a new approach to public dialogue in health research and create a shareable printed and electronic zine of public contributor experiences and the impact of coproduction. (Sou and Hal (2022) state: “Comics and zines enable readers to access places and moments that other mediums are less able to, and they gesture toward a participatory, slowed-down practice of research engagement”)
Public advisers will be invited to use collage to create artwork based on group discussions, individual responses to the discussion and reflections of your own experiences or the impact involvement has had on you personally. There will be workshop facilitators to support you to develop ideas. Materials provided will include recycled resources, for the use of pre-existing media and text (eg. coloured papers, paint sticks, coloured pencils, marker pens etc.
Sian Cunningham will also be with us to record some audio/visual stories from the day.
Following the workshop content will be collated and prepared for printing . The zine will also include a QR code linking to an audio description of the zine and a screen reader friendly version. Physical copies of the zine and a link to an online version will be shared with participants and with relevant networks/organisations.
We will bring most of the necessary supplies. However please collect materials to bring that might be useful on the day. For example magazines (specifically those that are culturally and ethnically diverse), photographs, fabric scraps, text pieces, news clippings, dried flowers etc. Start thinking of a song you like to include in our playlist!
