Sparks, Nitrate, and One Big BOOM:The Story of Norman Studios and Jacksonville's Legacy on the Silver Screen
Friday, October 24, 10AM

During the silent era of the early 20th century, over 30 movie studios called Jacksonville home, earning the city its title as the “Winter Film Capital of the World”. By 1917,nearly every one of them were gone. But that didn’t stop a young, innovative filmmaker named Richard E. Norman from setting up shop in Arlington and pursuing his dream.
This program is an exploration of Jacksonville’s short-lived history as a movie mecca and the story of an unlikely white man from Middleburg who became apioneer of race film.
