ABOUT THIS EVENT:
What is a house without its yard? In historical research, buildings are inseparable from their surrounding landscapes. To fully understand the site, you need information from the buildings and landscapes. The best way to accomplish this is through interdisciplinary research, with restorationists and archaeologists working together and sharing information. Unfortunately, this is rarely practiced. Often, it is not practical or possible.
The program will illustrate the value of the interdisciplinary approach, depicting an example from the Stoner Farm in south-central Pennsylvania. In conjunction, the speakers will discuss and demonstrate methods for maintaining historic landscapes that can be done with little or no archaeological experience (What is called Maintenance Archaeology). This talk will be by Scott Parker and Trent Carbaugh of Little Antietam Creek, Inc. (LACI), archaeological investigations.
