Join the River Institute at Ontario Power Generation on Saturday, June 27th, 2026 at 10:00 AM and discover aquatic invertebrate ecology, how they can help indicate the health of a water body, and learn about the importance of preserving their habitats.

What to expect:

Participants will explore aquatic invertebrate ecology through discussion, field sampling and microscope observation. Learn about aquatic invertebrates and their importance in the St. Lawrence River ecosystem. Participants will have the opportunity to collect field samples as well as identify invertebrates with River Institute educators and scientists.

Guests of the workshop will also learn how to use D-nets and kick nets to sample benthic invertebrates. Use scientific tools like a microscope, pipette, and dichotomous key to explore various species of invertebrates from the St. Lawrence River. Discover the importance of water quality and the link with aquatic invertebrates.
