APRIL SPEAKER AND PRESENTATION TOPIC
On April 25th, join us at the Power Electronics Community Meetup to hear our distinguished guest speaker's lecture on rectifiers and his most recent textbook publication.
Dr John G. Kassakian is Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, specializing in the areas of power electronics, power systems, and automotive electrical systems. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from MIT, and was the Founding President of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Power Electronics Society.
Rectifiers are present in almost all power electronic circuits, yet their behavior is often poorly understood. In this talk we will review simple rectifier operation and progress to more complicated multiples rectifiers. Total harmonic distortion and power factor are critical parameters of front-end rectifiers, and these performance metrics for various rectifier configurations will be discussed. The pain and joy of writing a textbook will be briefly illuminated. Some interesting anecdotes may be included.
