ABOUT RUSSELL GULLEY
Celebrating the Muscle Shoals Legacy
Muscle Shoals, Alabama has long been a hotbed of musical creativity, producing iconic hits for legends like The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. While many big names made their mark there, one unsung hero of the Shoals sound is Russell Gulley. A musician, songwriter, and artist, Gulley moved to Muscle Shoals in 1973, where he worked at the famed Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. It was there, alongside producer Jimmy Johnson and bassist David Hood, that he began crafting his own music, which would later form the basis for his lifelong career in music.
Today, Gulley celebrates over four decades in the industry, most recently with the release of Dusty King James, a compilation of Blues-based Gospel songs. The album, which includes his original track “No Hold Barred,” has garnered attention with its blending of spiritual themes and the raw, earthy feel of the blues. His song has reached the top of the N1M Blues Charts, cementing Gulley’s place as a respected artist in the genre.
Gulley’s deep roots in Muscle Shoals are at the heart of his music, and his upcoming performances offer fans a chance to experience his unique brand of "Low Down, Down Home, Swampy Music" live.
