Plitvice Lakes National Park is Croatia's first National park established in 1949, covering 296.85 km2 of breathtaking natural splendour, making it the largest among the country's 8 national parks, ranging in altitude from 367 m to 1279 m above sea level.
The Plitvice National Park is beautiful in any season.
The park was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1979, recognising its "outstanding natural beauty and undisturbed production of travertine (tufa) through chemical and biological action". It represents a phenomenon of karst hydrography.
