Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day intensive, interactive and practice-dominated workshop designed to prepare participants to recognize signs of suicide risk and provide suicide first-aid intervention. Small group discussions and skills practice will help participants learn to recognize when someone may be at risk of suicide and respond in ways that help increase their immediate safety and link them to further help. The ASIST workshop is appropriate for any caregiving role and aims to enhance a suicide-safer community.
Learning Objectives:
• Identify how attitudes and beliefs about suicide affect how we deliver
interventions via small group discussions.
• Discuss suicide in a direct manner through guided practice.
• Utilize a collaborative approach to intervention focused on safe outcomes.
• Review immediate suicide risk and develop appropriate safe-plans.
• Demonstrate skills required to intervene with a person at risk of suicide
through rehearsal and role-plays.
• Identify resources available to a person at risk of suicide.
• Apply a commitment to involving, utilizing and improving community
resources.
• Apply suicide prevention includes life promotion and self-care for
caregivers/participants.
